Position Summary

As a Marketing and Design Specialist at Banksia, you will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of clients on projects and campaigns alongside helping manage our firm’s own marketing and design work.

This role combines the art of graphic design with the science of marketing to uphold and expand the reach of our firm’s brand and create compelling, visually engaging campaigns. The ideal candidate will be adept at both graphic design and marketing strategy, ensuring cohesive and impactful brand messaging across all platforms.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to learn, create, and contribute to projects and marketing campaigns across a wide range of sectors while also receiving mentorship and guidance. Your growth and development as a marketing and design specialist is a top priority.

Banksia is not primarily a marketing, design or creative firm, as such part of this role will be to provide your expert marketing and design advice to our government relations and communications consultants as well helping to lead our firm’s own marketing and design strategy.

Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the General Manager and with direction from our Content and Podcast Producer, your primary responsibilities will be to apply and develop your marketing and design skill set in helping to lead our firm’s own marketing strategy and across a range of our clients, this includes but is not limited to:

  • Marketing Strategy: Develop and execute marketing strategies that align with business goals, focusing on prospective client engagement and brand awareness.
  • Brand Management: Maintain and enhance Banksia’s brand consistency across all marketing materials and channels.
  • Marketing Campaign Management: Plan, implement, and analyse marketing campaigns, ensuring timely delivery and optimal performance.
  • Digital Marketing: Utilise SEO, SEM, and social media marketing to drive online traffic and engagement. Analyse and report on digital marketing metrics.
  • Market Research: Conduct market research to identify trends, competitor activities, and opportunities for growth.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and quality standards are maintained.
  • Graphic Design: Create visually appealing graphics for a variety of mediums, including social media, websites, email campaigns, print materials, and advertisements (for Banksia and, where relevant, for some of our client campaigns/projects).
  • Content Creation: Design and produce high-quality content such as infographics, videos, presentations, and promotional materials.
  • Customer Engagement: Develop strategies to engage and grow our client base through targeted marketing efforts.
  • Client Account Support: Provide advice on the above skills and activities to our team of government relations and communications consultants for use in the various client campaigns/projects.
  • Ideation: Bring fresh and creative ideas to both client projects and internal Banksia marketing and design projects.
  • Style Guides: Understand and work within often strict brand style guides.
  • Feedback & Development: Seek feedback and guidance from senior members of the Banksia team to develop your skills both as a marketer and designer and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Team Interaction and Engagement: Actively and cooperatively participate in group discussions and client meetings.

Key attributes and competencies required:  

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and web design tools. Knowledge of HTML/CSS is a plus.
  • Marketing Skills: Strong understanding of digital marketing channels, social media platforms, SEO/SEM, Google Analytics, social media advertising, influencer marketing, and email marketing.
  • Creative Skills: Exceptional design and creative skills with a strong portfolio of client-based graphic design projects. A solid understanding of how to apply the creative process to real-word projects.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse marketing data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Project Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Highly Organised and Detail Orientated: Provide strong attention to detail across multidisciplinary creative outputs, and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Time Management: Demonstrated ability to multi-task and use time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Learning and Development: Unafraid to ask for help if needed.
  • Innovation: An innovative and creative approach to work.
  • Collaboration: A collaborative work ethic and ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.

Preferred but not essential:  

  • Experience with video production and editing (e.g. Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, After Effects)
  • Familiarity with marketing automation and generative artificial intelligence tools.
  • An interest in politics and current affairs is not necessary but does help.

Qualifications required:  

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent educational experience) in Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing and graphic design roles.
